 about waves
Waves is an adult (ages 18 and up) swim club which offers 20 practices each week that swimmers can choose from. We offer a summer season which runs from June 1st to September 15th, and a winter season that runs from November 15th to May 15th. During the summer months, we focus a little more on distance swimming and open water events. Our big event for the summer is the Big Shoulders 2.5/5K open water swim in early September. The winter season offers many options for stroke development and technique improvement. The short course competitive season runs mid December through May 15th. Swimmers are encouraged (but not required) to participate in events. Waves also has many social events planned throughout the year and is planning a third annual training trip to the hall of fame pools in February.

Big Shoulders Open Water Swim This Saturday
Good luck to all the Waves competing in the 18th Annual Big Shoulders Open Water Swim Classic! The race is Saturday, September 6th, with the first wave starting at 8am. You can swim either a 2.5k or 5k on a triangular course beginning at the Ohio St. Beach in downtown Chicago. There IS race-day registration, so swing by on Saturday for a quick Lake Michigan swim! We always have a large contingent of Waves swimmers and the race makes a great end-of-season event or a nice training swim for swimmers competing in fall triathlons.

Congrats to National Champion Mark Mattson!
2008 USMS Long Course Nationals were Aug 14-17 in Gresham, OR. Our lone representative, Mark Mattson, won the men's 35-39 800m free! Way to go Mark! Full results are available on the USMS LCM Nationals Championships page.
